We are looking for a talented individual to work as an Application Engineer in the project engineering department, providing engineering and consultancy advice for the application of voltage control, tapchangers and control and protection equipment on power systems. The successful candidate will provide support for existing products and input into new product development, providing engineering support to sales and delivery teams in the factory and on-site.


Role Summary

  • Receive customer requests and identify the requirements
  • Design high level applications, outline and detailed designs for system integration, settings and parameter calculation and application
  • Cost estimation for related opportunities
  • Check and approve technical documents and engineering drawings
  • Provide input into electrical designs
  • Test and commission control and protection panels and schemes in the factory and on-site
  • Provide support to customers for existing and legacy products and for their power systems queries in general
  • Work within company health and safety policies and procedures



  • Knowledge of general electrical engineering and electrical circuit theory with a strong mathematics ability
  • Knowledge of power systems and electrical substation arrangements
  • Knowledge of distributed generation and the effect on the power system
  • Be able to carry out independent research for consultancy related projects
  • Experience in using load flow analysis software (e.g. IPSA power).

The following knowledge and experience would be advantageous but is not essential:

  • Experience of substation equipment including tapchangers, voltage control schemes and protection equipment and schemes
  • Experience in customer support, consultancy work and producing technical reports
  • Understanding of wiring diagrams, core and cable schedules and general control panel arrangements
  • AutoCAD Electrical experience
  • Software development knowledge (e.g. VBA, Python, C)



  • Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • The following qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential:
    • Authorised to work in UK DNO substations
    • Current or previous safety related certification (CCNSG safety passport, BESC, etc.)
    • A higher degree in electrical engineering
